Vice President of the United States
James David Vance was born in August 1984 in Middletown, Ohio. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Iraq War as a combat correspondent with the 2nd Marine Air Wing. Following military service, he earned an undergraduate degree in political science and philosophy from Ohio State University. He received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. He entered the private practice of law.
Vance moved to San Francisco to work in the tech industry, becoming a principal in a venture capital group. He later returned to Ohio and joined an investment firm. He became a contributor to CNN. After two years, he formed his own capital financial company.
He was elected to the U.S. Senate and assumed office in January 2023. President Trump chose Senator Vance as his vice presidential running mate in the summer of 2024. President Trump and Vice President Vance won the popular vote as well as the Electoral College in the presidential election in November. They were sworn into office in January 2025.
Vance is married to Usha Chilukuri, and they are expecting their fourth child. He is a Catholic.

Vice President JD Vance is chairing the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, which President Trump created last month.
The president’s order explained, “The Task Force… [will] coordinate a comprehensive national strategy to stop fraud, waste, and abuse across Federal benefit programs, including housing, food, medical care, and cash assistance administered with State and local partners, in order to protect these benefits for eligible Americans.”
“The Task Force will coordinate measures to improve eligibility verification, implement pre-payment controls, detect high-risk fraud trends, and disrupt and dismantle fraud networks and the mechanisms through which fraud is committed,” the executive order continued.
“The Task Force will also coordinate development of minimum anti-fraud requirements to prevent exploitation of taxpayer-funded benefits, including proof of identity and documentation requirements, risk controls, and audit and remedial actions, while each member agency’ works to develop a measurable implementation plan.”
President Trump also announced that Vice President Vance is engaged, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in ongoing peace talks with Iran.
